About eBay Foundation

"We created eBay Foundation to link people with the resources that will empower them to improve not only their own lives, but also the community around them."

~ Pierre Omidyar, Founder, eBay

The first corporate foundation to be endowed with pre-IPO stock, eBay Foundation was established in 1998, underscoring the company’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy. Today, we have given more than $30 million to nonprofits and consistently been ranked in a list of the top corporate philanthropists in Silicon Valley.

Powering Economic Opportunity

eBay Foundation has worked for many years toward a vision of people all around the world being able to participate fully in the global economy. In prior years, our support for microenterprise development and entrepreneurship helped bring new products and services to hundreds of thousands of small business owners. Another grant program was directed at the artisan community, helping small producers around the world develop marketable products, enhance their business skills and gain access to world markets for their products. With The Opportunity Project, we turned our focus to the power of social innovation and collaboration to unlock new solutions to the complex issue of global poverty.

Engaging Employees

The Global Impact Team program was established in 2008 to engage our employees in service to the communities where they live and work. We support a global network of employees volunteering their time, supporting sustainability efforts, organizing drives and fundraisers, and championing local nonprofits to receive grants from the eBay Foundation. From supporting hackathons for low-income youth to technology mentoring for seniors, our Global Impact Teams seek out ways they can support the needs of their local communities.
